Monkey Shower for PoonBabyBaby

i design'd this monkey @ my cousin's request for a wedding monogram in 2008. the couple's bathroom was full of monkeys, so monkeys came right to mind. i doodled it, created it on Illustrator & happily email'd it to the couple for approval......turns out i should've done my research on what a monogram is. LOL! finally i did some research, design'd a FABULOUS monogram - can't find the file anywhere :( & kept this for the baby shower. 3 yrs later, their baby boy is on way! yay! less than 2 months to go! i no longer remember how to use Illustrator, so i couldn't make any changes to it. i had want'd to make the heart into a pacifier & change the mouth to read "baby."

i had originally thought of making a big fluffy cotton monkey pillow, but then i had too much going on (2 showers & 2 weddings in 3 weekends), so i made this felt monkey instead.

took less than 1 hour to roll all the diapers (with wilson's help) & get it to this stage.

almost complete! yay!

i consider'd leaving it like this to exhibit the onsie, but then it wouldn't been difficult to wrap up (plus i'd lose one of my pants hangers...hehe)

this poster only cost me $0.44 for the poster board, a few sheets of scrapbook paper & construction paper, and like 15 minutes of time

the diaper cake & the sign-in poster

VOILA! DONE! I am proud of my 3rd diaper cake!

on to the monkey cookies - my first ever iced cookie project & it's a big one! gotta make 50 of 'em as favors.

cookies dedicated to Princess Leia?

icing is done! yay! wasn't as difficult as i expect'd, but surely was time-consuming. although i would love to do it again!

tags for the cookies - i printed the monkey heads on blue cardstock front & back, then punch'd holes in 'em.

look @ all the smiling monkeys! aren't they adorable? the betty crocker decorating icing wasn't a very good idea, left me with too many mess'd up eyes. ARGH! next time i'll use royal icing for the eyes too.

dude, i was so happy @ this point cos all the cookies were done & i only had a few casualties.

smiling monkey vs. smiling tofu =D

the toothpick toppers for the cupcakes - the "B's" were cut out of thick glittery scrapbook paper & the monkeys were print'd on index cards & cut out.

here are the vanilla cupcakes & carrot cake cupcakes - it was my first time making carrot cake & i didn't even try one - kinda forgot to while i was @ the Shower. LOL! everyone said it was yummy! i was glad since i used a random recipe from a very old recipe binder i found in my stuff while search'n for construction paper.

i frost'd the red velvet cake with color'd vanilla buttercream & chocolate buttercream.

then amazingly the cake with its tray fit into this box, which amazingly fit into our fridge. AWESOME!!! be safe for the 4 hour drive & i'll see u @ the party!

the diaper cake, cake & the cupcakes safely join'd the party & greatly impress'd. Ke Ke Ke.

22 of the cupcakes were frost'd with cream cheese buttercream frosting (cream cheese, butter, sugar, vanilla) & a few were frost'd with the chocolate buttercream leftover from the cake since i ran outta cc frosting.

me & my favorite cousin - the Mommy-To-Be =D

made the monkey's mouth last minute with red candymelts cos I was too afraid to try piping the "POON" outta buttercream. he turn'd out a lot like Joker, but it was midnight, 6 hrs until we had to head out & all i had were red, yellow, orange & white candymelts. my monkeycake's mouth was the same color as julius' mouth =D the eyes were made with the betty crocker decorating icing & it didn't harden enough overnight, so i had to cut out the wax paper underneath it & slide them onto the cake on location.

see the eyes came right off since they were on wax paper. hahaha.

this cake was surprisingly delicious!!!!! it impress'd even me in taste! i'm usually not a fan of stuff i make, sadly, but this one was yummy! it was like my tenth time making the Ghiradelli cocoa recipe, but this time, it tasted best! i think the chocolate buttercream press'd all the right buttons. it could've used a little less cocoa & a little more food coloring for the rich red velvet color, but it tasted absolutely yum!

thanks Lisa & Paul for giving me the opportunity to have this much fun baking & doing arts & crafts. XOXOXO!  i can't wait to meet PoonBabyBaby in 2 months. He will get that big fluffy monkey pillow from me eventually. HAHAHA. i promise!!! =P
